Which Noah's Ark Book?

We are blessed to own three copies of Noah's Ark, which I have purchased on the recommendations of friends. All excellent selections, though if I had to name my personal favourite it would be Jerry Pinkney's. Though I highly recommend all three titles.



Noah's Ark - Peter Spier
I absolutely love Spier's illustrations and writing in The Book of Jonah, so was keen to add his Noah's Ark to our collection. The scenes are incredibly detailed on double spread pages.  I admit to being disappointed when I discovered it has no text as I'm not a fan of wordless books. However as I study the book more I'm seeing the beauty. Highly recommend.




Noah's Ark - Jane Ray
The text in this copy is directly from the Bible unchanged, simple to follow and understand accompanied by gorgeously illustrated pictures edged in gold. Love the simplicity of this book. Highly recommend.







Noah's Ark - Jerry Pinkney
The text has a Biblical cadence and much of the language is Biblical text. Soft and warm watercolour illustrations. My personal favourite of the three. Highly recommend.

    Ooh, good list! I grew up with the Peter Spier version on our bookshelves, but always ignored it because I didn't like wordless books as a child. It might be time to revisit it; our twins love just sitting and examining pictures and pointing out details, something Spier's work welcomes. We own the Pinkney and love it. I need to add some of Jane Ray's work to our library list. I keep hearing wonderful things about her work, but haven't sat and really looked through any of her picture books...maybe for Easter baskets if we like them...

      Sarah, I've long suspected we have similar tastes in books:)Yes Spier's work would be perfect for your twins now. Jane Ray would be short enough for their attention too, yet meaty.

    I haven't seen the Jane Ray book, either, but I just requested it from the library. Have you seen The Ark by Arthur Geisert? That's one of my favorite versions.
