A Portrait A Week - July 22nd Edition

A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013

Not a portrait but I couldn't resist sharing.

Trying to join in with Che and Fidel for months but each week I have 'missing children'.  Decided to take the plunge and share at least a few children each week, hoping to be more conscious of capturing each child.

Photography Question: How can I blur/eliminate the 'unsightlies' from photo backgrounds?

Linking up with Jennifer's challenge this week as well as Jodi

  1. Lovely pics of your children. (Don't blur the bikes. It's effective!)

  2. Hi Erin,

From an artist's perspective, I would probably crop a lot when this happens - eg. crop off legs or background to accentuate the contrast of the face or to centre the point of focus or to balance focused and blurred parts of the composition.

Using a low F-stop, pre-checking the background and getting in really close are some tips I'm learning. Also, increasing the contrast can lift the subject from the background.

    Your children look beautiful!

    God bless:-)

Will have to look into F stops.

  4. Erin the lower the F-stop the more blur in the background.

Here is a fantastic tutorial on the blur effect. Actually I really enjoy all their tutorials.
